About schleyer music

Professional Guitar and Music Services

Since picking up the guitar at age 10 Chris Schleyer has been dedicated to the instrument.

At the age of 17 Chris was chosen to attend the first Governor's School For The Arts in Louisville, KY and then went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Music with an emphasis on guitar performance from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.

Once obtaining a solid musical and technical education, Chris moved to Los Angeles, CA to start his professional music career in 1992.

It was here that he joined the Interscope/Nothing Records group PRICK which had the privilege of being chosen as the opening act for the 1995 Nine Inch Nails/David Bowie "OUTSIDE" tour.

The groups single, "Animal" was featured on the "Showgirls" Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Chris was also a member of the late 90's Los Angeles based industrial rock group "Kidney Thieves" and the Norwegian Industrial rock group "Zeromancer".

In 2003 Chris was hired by the band "A Perfect Circle" as James Iha's understudy and temporary rehearsal guitarist for the groups "13 Step" tour before joining the tour as James Iha's guitar tech.

Since then Chris has gone on to work as a touring guitar tech with such artists as Green Day, Katy Perry, Backstreet Boys, NIN, Tool, The Decemberists, Social Distortion and more.

Aside from an extensive career as a touring guitarist and guitar tech, Chris has also performed and worked on various film and television productions such as "DOOM", "Sahara", "Suspect Zero", The History Channel's "AxMen", NBC's "America's Toughest Jobs", and Comedy Central's "The Gong Show with Dave Attell".

Chris brings all of this experience to the table when teaching his students, beginner or advanced, whether it be a question on music theory, playing technique, setting up your guitar or wiring up your rig properly.
